I know that I can’t be the only mom that feels self conscious of my body after two kids. People try to make me feel better by saying that my body has done amazing things and the weight, stretch marks, and saggy boobs are all a beautiful part of it.
That honestly makes it worse some times. Now, not only do I feel self conscious but I feel like I am not appreciative of my children. I feel like I’m not allowed to tell people that I am having a hard time getting use to this new body. I have even been made to feel like I am disrespecting women that can’t have children.
Although I am not perfect and still have binge days, I have seen major results with these tips. The main thing is to make your mind strong enough to follow them. The less we give in to what we know is wrong- no matter how freaking delicious it us- the quicker we will get to goal weight.
With that being said, I don’t want you to think you have to go on a crazy diet to lose weight. Moderation is key, but it definitely helps to speed up the process when you are strict!
Alright mamas, lets get it!
1. Cut out fast food!
This one is a hard one for me. Being a mom means that sometimes I get in a hurry. I can always rely on the convenience of fast food.
Once I started to get serious about losing weight and stopped eating out, I seen results.
Try to make it a point to eat something healthy before you leave the house and you will be able to turn it down much easier. I have always been a sucker for McDonald’s breakfast and now I can get my kids food and be satisfied with my home-cooked breakfast.!
2. Be Aware of Calories
Notice that I did not title this tip “Count Your Calories”. That is because when I try to count calories, I end up going off the deep end. I start getting crazy with my diet and get too obsessive. It will stress me to the point that I fall off the wagon and eat everything in my path!
In order for us to lose weight, we have to be in a deficit. What that means is we burn more calories than we eat. If you put your info into a calorie calculator, it will tell you how many calories you should eat in a day to lose weight.
The reason I say be aware of calories is because we consume alot of unnecessary calories without really knowing. The next time you go somewhere to eat, pay attention to the calorie count on the food. Especially fast food. Most meals are over 1,200 calories……that’s a whole days worth of food for some people!
Just start checking the amount of calories and it can help you make better decisions.
3. Stop Drinking Your Calories
If you are the type of person that needs pop and juice all day, that can be a huge part of the problem. Depending on what you drink there can be tons of calories in it. Not to mention the amount of sugar!
It’s not easy to break the habit , but it IS worth it. It’s very rare that I drink things other than water anymore and I used to drink pop all day!
Cut out as much as you can and replace it with…….
We have been told since we were young that we need to at least drink 8 glasses of water a day. That’s a good starting point but The Mayo Clinic says we need 11.5 glasses a day as women, and men need even more. You can check that link to see other health benefits of drinking water.
It helps me to drink more water if I have a cute fancy cup or just a Styrofoam cup. I can’t drink warm water so ice is also a must. You can add lemon or some of your favorite fruits and veggies. My personal favorite is lemons and cucumbers.
If you look up detox waters, you will find that different combos of fruits and veggies can help with certain issues. For example, cucumber lemon water helps flush out toxins and boosts immunity. Read more about it here.
5. Lower Carb Intake
Last year, I tried the Keto Diet. It is a pretty complex diet and requires you to do your research to learn what is and is not deemed keto. To simplify it for now though, it is a low carb diet.
Before the diet I didn’t know much about carbs but I quickly found that cutting my carbs drastically changed my weight. Carbs make you hold water and when you replace carbs with fat, it flushes out that water.
Some people are extremely successful on the diet, but for me it was just too restrictive. I am just more aware of the different types of carbs and try to stay lower carb. It has helped me lose a good amount of weight.
There are tons of low carb recipes out there, especially on pinterest. Challenge yourself to lower your carb intake and if you are really strong willed, give the keto diet a shot!
6. Figure Out Your Body Type
Finding our body type can help us to have a better understanding of how our body works and how we gain and lose weight. I found the body type quiz and now I know that my body type is an endomorph.
I gain weight and hold it easily. The best way for me to lose weight is to carb cycle. One day I need to eat high carbs and the next day low carbs.
The best exercise for my body type is high intensity interval training or HIIT!
I am not sponsored, but I highly recommend taking the test to see what your body type is; and the most effect diet and exercise for you.
7. Watch Your Sodium
I hold alot of water and I have turned to Dr. Google to help me figure out what makes you retain so much. There are a million things out there but one that really made sense for me personally was sodium.
I remember thinking that I do eat alot of salt that I am aware of. I was surprised by how much I was not aware of! It made my head spin when I started checking labels. Any type of food that is meant to last for a while is wayyyyyy too high in sodium.
Fast food is some of the worst foods for high sodium. Any time I get something now,I look at the nutrition facts online and it usually results in me getting an iced water and eating when I get home.
8. Replace Desserts With Fruits
This one is pretty self explanatory. I’m guilty of being the stressed out mama eating ice-cream out of the tub! I have a strong sweet tooth and sometimes I feel like I need to have a dessert after every meal.
I changed my after lunch cookie to an after lunch clementine. If I need a dessert, on a good day, I will have some sort of fruit or low carb dessert. I found that when I changed the type of dessert, I could go without one at all most days.
I don’t know about you but I have to make my workouts fun. If it feels like work to me then I put it off. I enjoy walks with my kids and it doesn’t seem like a workout to me at all.
Starting off slow with something as simple as going on walks can motivate you to go for more. I like to challenge myself and walk faster up hills or farther before I take breaks. When I feel the burn I just think about the progress being made.
10. Get More Sleep
As a mother, I am almost positive you are having a hard time getting enough sleep. I used to put my kids to bed and stay up late just so I could have some me time.
When I wake up the next morning I always regret it. I learned that the best me time I could have is to go to bed myself.
Our sleep plays a big part in being able to lose weight. If you want to know how just check out this article on Web MD.
I hope these tips will help you on your weight loss journey. If you fall off the wagon just jump back on. You got this! Stay blessed mama!
